Professor David Tremethick

Professor Tremethick has been a research academic at the John Curtin School of Medical Research for over 25 years, specialising in uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of mammalian genome function. Throughout his career, he has successfully secured over $13.5 million in competitive funding from ARC and NHMRC. He reviews for prestigious national and international granting bodies, including the Human Frontiers Science Program and the European Union Research Area grants. He also contributes to the evaluation of global research organizations, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Centre of Excellence in Molecular Cell Science and has served on academic selection committees for leading institutions, including the Izmir Biomedicine and Genome Centre in Turkey. In 2010, Tremethick founded and led the Department of Genome Sciences, overseeing its development until 2021. Under his leadership, the JCSMR secured $3.4 million in external funding to advance cutting-edge genomic technologies. In 2010, he also led the Genetics and Genomics capability at the ANU, driving genomic research across the university and the ACT. Previously, Tremethick served on the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵBoard of the Institute of Advanced Studies and contributed to policy development as a member of the General Policy subcommittee.
